Sansuhwa: paintings of mountain and water
“I exist because you exist, and I exist becuase nature exist.” Nature breathes, thinks, and exists beyond human perception. Sansuhwa: painting of water and mountain envisions wind, sea, and mountains as conscious beings, dissolving the boundary between humanity and the natural world. Inspired by Korea’s centuries-old perception of nature, where harmony was not an ideal but a way of being, this work aims to reawaken a forgotten relationship—one where nature isn’t a resource but a presence, a friend, a cohabitant. Nature existed long before us, with its own purpose and way of living, and we, as ephemeral visitors, must humbly acknowledge our place within it. Only by respecting nature can we live together harmoniously, realising that we are not the centre, but part of a larger, shared existence.
